Mr. Moreland is in his 5th year as Director of Bands at Murphysboro High School and his 20th year with the program. Mr. Moreland is a graduate of Brainerd Senior High School in Brainerd, MN and attended SIU Edwardsville, Southeast Missouri State University, and John A Logan College before receiving his degree in Music Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Mr. Moreland is an alumni of the Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps where he marched from 1985-1989. Mr. Moreland has worked for several high schools in Southern Illinois as an instructor and arranger. Mr. Moreland has a beautiful wife, two awesome kids, and is an avid Minnesota Vikings, L.A. Lakers, and Saluki Fan.

Nick Williams is a native of Murphysboro, Illinois, graduating from Murphysboro High School in 2003 with honors. He attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received his Bachelor’s of Music degree in Music Education, graduating cum laude in May 2007. While at SIU Carbondale, Nick studied band methods under Professor Michael Hanes, Director of Bands Emeritus, and current Director of Bands, Dr. Christopher Morehouse. He also studied conducting under Dr. Susan Davenport, Director of Choral Activities. As a trombonist, Nick performed in the SIUC Wind Ensemble, touring internationally with them to England during the summer of 2004, as well as the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble I, the Marching Salukis, and the Saluki Pep Band. In July 2007, Mr. Williams was selected to become Director of Bands for Murphysboro Middle School. He teaches Band, Jazz Ensemble, 5th grade Beginning Band, 6th grade Music Theory, and 8th grade Music Appreciation.

In addition to being Director of Bands for Murphysboro Middle School, Nick serves as the Assistant Director for the Crimson Express Marching Band, where he teaches both visual and musical elements. His duties also include organizing and running Drums at Appletime, a local marching band competition held in conjunction with the Murphysboro Apple Festival. Previously, Mr. Williams has worked with the Pinckneyville High School and Belleville East High School band programs. He has also served on staff with SIU Carbondale’s own Marching Salukis as an undergraduate assistant, organizing and running their marching band competition, Music and Motion.

Mr. Williams is a member of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, and the Illinois Music Educator’s Association. He currently resides in Murphysboro, and is engaged to his fiancée L’Erin Ragon. In his free time, Nick loves seeing live music, and spending time with his family and friends.

Casey HansonCasey Hanson

Casey graduated from Murphysboro High School in 2005. She is currently working on an associates in biological science at John A. Logan College. Casey was a member of the Crimson Express color guard from 2001-2005.
