Murphysboro High School is the home for the Crimson Express Marching Band, part of the regular band program at Murphysboro High School. Murphysboro is a Southern Illinois community located 90 miles south-east of St. Louis, Missouri, and 6 miles west of Carbondale, Illinois. Approximately 660 students attend Murphysboro High School.
Crimson Express is a unique and wonderful blend of students, parents, staff, and community members devoted to the sustained success of the program. Crimson Express was formed in 1991 by founding director Mark Mikulay. Today, the band program strives for excellence in Jazz band, Concert band, Marching band, Pep band, Solo & Ensemble, and many other musical experiences offered to students.
During its short existence, the Crimson Express has performed in local, national, and international contests and festivals, winning countless awards and making it one of the communities most well-known and valuable assets. The Band has toured/performed in the following cities: Washington D.C., New York City, Lynn/Boston, MA, Disney World/Orlando, FLA, Chicago, Memphis, TN, Traverse City, MI, Toronto Canada, Calgary Alberta Canada, Denver, CO., St. Louis, MO., Racine, WI., Mt. Rushmore, Regina Canada, Niagara Falls, Drum Corps. Mid-West Championships in Dekalb, IL., Indianapolis, IN., and various other local and regional locations.
Crimson Express is under the direction of Michael Moreland.
